Getting to know Unkaitenshi...

Hello there! Why don’t you tell us something about yourself? We’d love to know a bit about you!
Hi! Well, I'm not really fond of talking about myself, but I'll do my best to answer these questions.
My mood changes really easily and quickly, I often feel depressed, but then suddenly switch to a state of euphoria and universal love. I can't decide what I like and what I don't... Essentially, I love everything and hate it at the same time. For example, I like cute and pretty things, but their large amount annoys me. And at the same time I like something dark and violent too. Sometimes I feel envious about people who have found their preferences and style, because I'm constantly jumping from one thing to another.
Also, at times I want to have many friends, but then I realise that it's impossible (at least for me) because it implies constantly being in touch, and I'm really bad at doing so.

What influenced you to start drawing manga and anime styled works? Have you tried or considered switching to another style different than manga? (realism, cartoon, abstract, photography…)
I've been always scribbling something since my childhood, I just loved that. My first experience with anime style wath through Sailor Moon, but of course at the time I didn't know that it's a whole huge culture! Then there were times when I was fed up with all these sugary huge-eyed girls and got thick of them. I've tried other styles, and the results were pretty good, but it wasn't interesting for me to draw in these other styles. The very drawing process feels more pleasant when I use anime style, and I didn't feel that with other ones. So I understood that it's the style for me C: Though sometimes I still get tired of it... I get annoyed by my own drawing style, and that's why I often like to colour someone else's linearts. It's relaxing and provides a nice distraction from my own style (which I'm not quite aware of, though my friends say that I definitely have a distinct one).

What is the part you love the most about drawing in manga style? And the least?
I love that you can experiment with body types, faces and funny hairdos. Of course you can do that in cartoon style as well, but anime style in my opinion is more magical and, so to say, tasty.
As for the least... Well, I don't like when people draw HUGE eyes XD And I also don't like when people make mistakes in anatomy and justify it by saying "Come on, it's anime! Why should I care about anatomy here?". Yes, sometimes an intentionally deformed body can look beautiful, but when people make excuses to hide blatant lack of skill... well, that's a completely different issue. Apparently, it's more like that I don't like people who use such excuses when drawing in this style.

Show us your favourite piece from your gallery! How about another one you love from someone else?
Frankly speaking, I don't have one! I like each of my works for about a day, and then love is gone and I think "Oh my god, what the hell did I draw OдO"
Concerning favourite arts... Well, I don't have them either. I love artists with interesting drawing and colouring styles that leave a very deep impression on me))
Here are some of them

- I love the ideas of her works, but most of all I love her vibrant and lively colouring style.

- I love everything about his works, I'm his big fan! I even bought his artbook.

- though he doesn't draw in anime style, I love his grasp of anatomy and his use of colours, especially the way he colours skin.

I’m in love with your characters! Can you give us some insight on their story?
Thank you! I'm always happy when someone likes my characters. But telling about them is a thing I don't quite enjoy (because I'm really lazy). They just live peacefully in the little world of my imagination. Though sometimes I write about them in the artist comments.

How is your creative process like when you create a new character for your story?
It's usually a matter of inspiration and ideas. Sometimes they just suddenly pop up, just like that, out of the blue. Often the image comes first, and after that I come up with some backstory. But sometimes I'm too lazy even for that

What do you love the most about drawing/creating them? Are you considering drawing a manga to tell their story?
After coming up with an image, I start working on the actual character design. That's my favourite thing about creating characters - working out their appearance. I just LOVE characters with simple but cool and interesting designs - the ones that are easy to draw but still exciting. So the most important thing for me is not the backstory or personality, but design and appearance.
I gave up on trying to draw manga long ago. I'm very lazy and can't devote myself to something for a long period of time. I can't even finish some separate arts, let alone a whole comic.

What piece of advice would you give to every person out there who wishes to follow the Manga artist path too?
I'll touch upon a sore point, because I get many questions about drawing (in general, not necessarily in anime style).
The point is: learn anatomy, use tutorials and references, study thematic literature - everything is out there for you! Don't start the drawing from eyes or any other body part, only experienced and skilled artists can afford such a luxury, and even they often make rough sketches first and use construction lines!
