DeviantART is a hive of activity with work from all sorts of genres and areas being shared and submitted on a daily basis. So it's only natural that sometimes, confusion happens. And there are a few pesky categories that are difficult to define and differentiate between. We've recently found that Photography -> Still Life and Artisan Crafts are a great example of this.

Weather Photography has always fascinated me - the weather in general does anyway, but capturing those changes, shifts in atmosphere and so on have always had me in awe. However when browsing the latest news within popular photography early this week I was stunned by an image that NASA had captured of hurricane Isaac as it lurked over the USA. I've been in a hurricane before, but it never felt as organised or precise as this image shows. This shows a smooth beautiful cloud formation. When below  it's likely wreaking havoc and destroying lives. It's difficult to match the two together and contemplate them as the same thing. Digital drawing. Digital painting. Same thing?Hello, dA!
As you may be aware, we are in the process of revisiting gallery descriptions and making sure that all of our submissions categories make sense and are useful to you. We also want to make sure that categories are mutually exclusive so that people don't submit their deviations to the wrong galleries/categories by mistake. 
This process brought out a very interesting conversation among some members of the CV team. Specifically, we started talking about what, fundamentally, the difference between digital drawing and digital painting was. Does it depend on brush strokes? Is there some technique used on one but not the other? What sets the two apart?
 . . . OR, are they essentially the same thing? :XD:

As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one.  Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one :) Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!

In my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category.  It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy

Manga and Anime Monthly Update

Hello there, everyone! :love:


It has barely been a month since I joined the team so it's a bit early to make a monthly update, isn't it? :giggle: Anyway, I'm glad to announce that classes are over this friday so I'll have plenty more time to get chat events and contests running, so brace yourselves! :la:

On other important news, I'm very saddened to say that `Miss-It-Girl has stepped down from the CR Team and no longer is your wonderful Manga and Anime CV. I command you all drop by her page and thank her for the hard work and all the dedication she put into the gallery and community <3 We ought to be grateful of what she did :happycry:. Go go go! :love:

Remember that now that `Miss-It-Girl's not a M&A CV you can only send your suggestions to `sTiViA or me.

I want you to feature very amazing artist in the M/A category and maybe also possible do something like show random M/A Artist who are open for commissions. I want to do that when I become a CV for M/A.

If you were to do chat events, maybe a chat event like favorite Mangas/Animes and worst and all that. I do that all the time at the Anime Club at my school since I am an executive for the group.

Also maybe do a chat event on Anime Expositions and all that.

And INTERVIEW ME LOL! KIDDING

Maybe interview artist who suggest a lot of M/A art...ok that's saying me again lol.

And host a new years contest for M/A!

Those are my ideas

I bet I know why Val stepped down, but she will be missed. And you keep doing your job well! I can't wait to see more!

I'm not hosting anything holiday related at the moment, but I do know I would love to see a contest. I always love seeing contests. While I can't donate art, I'm always available to donate a few :points: or some features, though. As for chat events, I'm never really available for those, so I can't say I'll be able to attend. With interviews, yes, I love reading them. I find a lot of great artists that way. :nod: I'll send you a note with someone for artist of the month. :D
