Manga Artist of the Month!
Welcome art appreciators and artists alike! Today I'm pleased to bring you all our very first Manga Artist of the Month for January: shrimpHEBY! Congratulations!

Our lovely artist of the month was suggested  by DestinieKirby who said "Not only is she a total sweetheart, but she has an absolutely beautiful gallery." I couldn't agree more! :la:

Getting to know Heby a bit!

Hello there, Heby! Why don't you tell us something about yourself? We'd love to know a bit about you!

Hi there~~I'm Heby, yes, just call me Heby, some friends just call me Shrimpy. LOLz. Drawing is my all time favourite thing to do in my life. I'm trying to improve my drawing skill bit by bit. In real life, my work has nothing to do with arts anyway. Drawing is just a hobby for me release stress. (*w*)b

When did you start drawing manga and anime styled works? Have you tried or considered switching to another style different than manga? (realism, cartoon, abstract, photography…)

As far as I can remember, I started grabbing pencil and draw when I was 7 years old. My grandma is my strongest motivator in drawing. She always praised me and requested to see more. So I was so excited and draw non stop for the entire day. I started with manga style, doodled with pencil and did inking. Of course my drawings really sucks that time. 4 years ago, I switched my style to anime ( I started learn to colour digitally)  and later semi-realism anime style. I'm trying to do semi-realism lately. If possible, in the future, I want to learn to draw realism portrait.

When and why did you join deviantART? How did it influence your life as an artist? What other sources influenced you to follow the path of the manga artist?

I started joined DA in late 2007. My friends asked me to. At first I was just submitting arts for fun and make friends. Later, I started doing commissions and it does bring better life to me and my family. Despite from that, I started to realized that there's so many things to learn even though I'm just drawing manga characters. I find them interesting and challenging. I want to learn more of that. Unfortunately, I'm just a part time artist though..I can only draw when I'm free from my real life job. Hopefully someday I can be a full time artist.

Do you have any OCs? Tell us a bit about them and how you came up with them! <3

I have ....like..8-9 OCs....To keep it short, I'll just introduce my recent favourite OCs. They are my chinese dragon and kirin OC, Xuan Long, 玄龙 (black haired) and Qi Rui, 麒瑞. (white haired)

Dragon and Kilin by shrimpHEBY

The idea of Xuan Long is derived from my drawing of a chinese dragon for the year of dragon.

Qi Rui was a white kirin I adopted from :iconsylverspiritwolf: ( unfortunately she deleted the kirin pic from her gallery)

I find designing characters from animal/mystery creature very interesting, so there goes my ideas of creating Xuan Long and Qi Rui.

Oh, you can find other OCs from my gallery or commissions from my favourite folder.

What is the part you love the most about drawing in manga style? And the least?
I love everything bout manga style, maybe the best part will be eyes~~I love drawing shinny eyes. LOLz.

Show us your favourite piece of manga/anime from your gallery!  And another one you love from someone else?

What piece of advice would you give to every person out there who wishes to follow the Manga artist path too?

Keep in mind that improvement doesn't show in split second. Keep drawing and you'll see the improvement eventually. Accept critiques in a good way and strictly no tracing other people's art. You may imitate but not tracing. Good luck guys.

Is there something else you'd like to say to our readers? Feel free to express yourself!!

Thank you so much for reading this and also dropping by my gallery. Hope my arts bring you happiness. I also want to thank deviant who suggested me. I'm really surprised and I really appreciate this chance given to me. I love DA and all deviants.

Thank you so much for giving us the chance to know you a bit more, Heby! You are a fantastic person and artist! We hope that all your wishes become true this new year and that you get to work on art as a full time job soon! Congrats again for being selected Manga and Anime Artist for the Month of January! Keep the good job up!

And to our lovely readers, stay tuned for the next Artist of the Month that will be published around the 15th of February :la::la::la: If you have any suggestion for this award, send me a note!

Have a great end of the weekend, everyone!
