About the Contest

The OC Battle Royale contest is designed for visual artists. The goal is to allow newer or struggling artists who do not have a digital tablet to show off their creativity for a chance to win a Wacom Bamboo Create tablet! There are two levels to the contest: one for the tablet that is closed to any professional artist or artist who already has a tablet and another level for all artists regardless of skill or equipment.

Rules for competing for the Wacom Tablet

Must not be a professional artist

Must not already have a tablet

Must have a mailing address in the USA

Must be a member of deviantART

Rules for the ALL Levels Competition

Must have a PayPal account
Must be a member of deviantART

Contest Guidelines

As a visual artist, your job is to create a new character or an OC (original character). You can create this character as part of an existing fandom or as a completely new character separate from any existing fandom. All submissions for both levels of this contest...

Must be created FOR the contest (after May 1st)
Can be done in any medium (no dolls or other flash game creations)
Must be in color with some kind of background
Must be full body to see the whole character
Must properly credit any fandom base referenced
Must include that it is for this contest and what level it is for

How To Participate

Simply create your entry, include that it is for this contest in the deviation's description, and then link it in a comment on this journal. Include if you are competing for the tablet or all-level competition. Those artists competing for the tablet can also complete in the all-level competition, but they must make a completely new and different entry for that competition (you cannot use the same work twice).

Judging

Please note that judging will be different for each competition. For the Tablet Competition, we are looking to see who has reached their limits with their current methods and equipment. For the All-Level Competition, we are looking for 'the full package,' not just a need for new resources but a desire to better themselves and produce the best possible work in a competitive atmosphere.

Tablet Competition Judging

How creative and thought-out is the character?
Did the artist go beyond their comfort zone or try something new?
Did the artist make improvements on this work (comparing to their own gallery, not other entries)?
Does it look like the artist really tried to challenge themselves?

ALL Levels Competition Judging

How creative and thought-out is the character?
Did the artist try something new or incorporate challenging designs/methods to their work?
Does the anatomy make sense (taking into consideration styles)?
Does the background work with or against the character illustration?
Did the artist remain conscientious about composition and other art theory?
