-Fan Art ABCs-
Fan Art ABCs will serve as a small dictionary of the terms related to Fan Art and Fan Fiction that you should be in touch with! This will be split in 7 parts spread throughout the week!
Since today, Dec 6th is Fan Fiction's Day within Project Educate, most of the terms are related to Fan Fiction. Feel free to suggest more words to add to the list (fan art or fan fiction related).
Fan Art ABCs: From E to H!
E
- elicoronel16: Fourth Gallery Moderator in Fan Art History. She's a lovely deviant that was granted seniority back on Dec 23rd, 2009 and joined the team as Fan Art GM on January 6th. She's always eager to help and get involved with the community, she's cheerful and heartwarming so don't miss out on her!
- Epic: a fan fiction that is over 100,000 words.
F
- Faction: Parts of a fandom which are split up among different issues in a fandom. For instance, those that support a character and those that don't are considered factions.
- Fandom: A term used to encompass the fans, their activities and mostly everything related to whatever they are fans of. This is also used as a synonym for "universe", meaning the world in which a show, movie, or book takes place.
- Fanon: a fact which isn't given (or at least isn't explicitly stated) in canon, but which nevertheless has become widely accepted as fact be the fans. Some of it makes sense, some of it leaves canon-purists hopping and spitting in impotent rage. also a set of invented background information filling in blanks in canon and adopted by one or more writers as truth when writing their fan fiction.
- Ficlet: A story usually 1000 words or less
- Filk: A fan fiction that is a parody of a song.
- Fluff: A light fiction which is usually just a day-in-the-life piece that is cute and humorous.
G
- (Fan)Game: Fangames are computer and video games made by fans based on one or more established video games. Many fangames attempt to clone the original game's design, gameplay and characters, but it is equally common for fans to develop a unique game using another only as a template. Though the quality of fangames has always been variable, recent advances in computer technology and in available tools have made creating high quality games easier.
- Genfic: Fan fiction which does not contain sexual situations. It contains no sexual or overly graphic violence and relatively little cursing.
H
- Hurt/Comfort [h/c]: A fan fiction in which a character is put through a traumatizing experience in order to be comforted
- Het: Refers to fanfic featuring or fictional situations depicting two people of different genders romantically and/or sexually involved.
The end
I'll add more words if I come up with them. Feel free to suggest more and I'll add them here
More to come tomorrow!
